A 24-year-old Stratford woman, Catherine “Cate” Palaia, was killed in a tragic crash on I-95 after a tire detached from a northbound Ford F-250 and struck her vehicle, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said the tire bounced over the highway’s concrete median barrier and hit the windshield and roof of Palaia’s Toyota RAV4. The impact caused her vehicle to cross multiple lanes, strike a guardrail and come to rest in the median.

Palaia’s family remembered her as a lover of adventure who embraced life with “curiosity, courage and joy.”
